Have you ever flirted with the idea of going abroad for a residency, or ever had a friend thinking of it? Then we have some good news! Maybe you’re sure that you want to take your residency abroad? The news are even better!!! For all of you, I’d like to introduce…

RDB

First things first. What is RDB (Residency DataBase)? It is an official IFMSA transnational project coordinated by a Greek and a Spanish coordinator. In fact it is a database which you can visit at the web-site http://www.helmsic.gr/residency-database/index.php. By visiting it you can find information about the requirements to complete your residency in about 40 countries and …stay tuned! It will grow enough in the future!

Everything happens for a reason! So does the existence of this project! In the very beginning it was created because its creators found it hard to gather information about residency in other countries and even harder to compare this information since they were not similar. In our days, though internet expands rapidly and it may be easier to find some more information, it is still hard to find all the information you want and is still difficult to compare them. But the students don’t only need the typical info but they also want many additional things such as if the money is enough to live on during the residency, and other knowledge such as geographic and political situation of the country. The reason for the existence of this programme is to make all these difficulties look like a game…

What is special about RDB is that information is not written in a text format. It is uploaded as answers to specific questions in the RDB questionnaire, which consists of 5 sections. By this simple structure, anyone can find the wanted information already organized and ready to compare it with other countries’ information simply by clicking the name of the country!

Trust us? Why not? We are not a commercial project! Our purpose is to give information to the graduate students. The questionnaires are filled in by students or post graduate students who answer truly and directly to what a student needs. Nothing more – nothing less! And if you still don’t trust these people, in most questionnaires there are links that can take you to some official information, and also an e-mail or a phone number from the person who completed the questionnaire, who you can communicate with, for further information.

Help us, help you! and other medical students will be helped in the future! At the time, the number of countries taking part in the project is about 40, but the international coordinating team is planning to take this number at least to 50, with a target of 60 countries in the end of 2007. And for this we need your help! You can enter the project’s site and download the questionnaire in word or zip format. Then you can complete it by your own or with our help. You can find us at rdb@helmsic.gr and at rdb@ifmsa-spain.org .

We hope that we gave you a good taste of our project and we’ll be glad to receive mails by anyone of you!
